Five reasons why summer is the best time to visit Costa Rica.
Have you heard? I’m hosting a fun, women’s yoga retreat this year in August. You might imagine that Costa Rica only has one season – endless summer – but after living here on the Nicoya Peninsula five years, I’ve seen the differences, both bold and subtle, between seasons. It turns out that August is one of my favorite months here and it’s why I’ve decided to host a retreat then. And you’re invited.
THE FIVE REASONS WHY I LOVE AUGUST IN COSTA RICA BEST
1. The jungle is lush and green.
The rains return in May so that by August all the trees, plants and countryside are glowing green. The wildlife reveals itself and the gardens are exploding with flowers, butterflies and hummingbirds.

2. Rainbows, Thunderstorms and Waterfalls.
Rains don’t last all day. They whip across the sky with brief thunderstorms or pass overhead with a light sprinkle. Keep your eyes peeled because with the latter there’s likely a rainbow arching over the sky. Plus, the waterfalls are the most beautiful when the rain and rivers are flowing.

3. The sunsets are spectacular.
Costa Rica is famous for its sunsets. Every night, we watch from the beach or your hotel balcony like a closing ritual to the day. With clouds adding variety to the sky, they are the most brilliant sunsets of the year.

4. You can walk the beach any time of the day.
In winter, usually it’s too hot and sunny to walk the beach except early morning or right before sunset. But in August, you can spend more time on the beach.

5. It’s not crowded.
This is the off-season when businesses and beaches are less crowded and the vibe is even more relaxed.

So if you love nature, thunderstorms, birds, flowers, rainbows, sunshine, clouds, and waterfalls, you will love August in Costa Rica.
