MEET YOUR TEACHER

Hi there! I'm Rebecca.

I have very fond memories of the first yoga class I took. It was 1997. We rolled around on a carpeted floor. There were folks of all ages. You never heard the word "arm balance" or "Lululemon".

 

Things changed and evolved. The yoga got harder. And thankfully I was still young and invigorated to meet the challenge. I was doing chaturunga poses and floating off the ground. I worked hard. It felt good.

 

My mat was literally being shredded by my hard work. And unbeknownst to me, so was my body. Without the proper know-how of movement, I just dove into the fun, fancy, flow world and I just kept walking away with small and medium-sized injuries; some that are still with me today.

 

It wasn't just hard on my body. I used yoga to avoid the harder issues in life; wrong job, wrong home, wrong relationships. It was a band-aid for what ailed me. And eventually, the band-aid wore off and wasn't working anymore.

 

Something was missing from my yoga practice. Strength. Not just the physical kind. The strength to face my fears. The strength to do what's hard, not easy. And the strength to know I had to change how I was practicing.

 

I am now a recovering vinyasa-holic. I do yoga that feels good. I focus on HOW TO move and WHY. So that I can keep doing things I love like surfing and holding heavy binoculars peeping up at beautiful tropical birds way over head.

 

I want to share this strength building yoga practice with you. So you can keep doing the things that you love too.

Rebecca Bly is a Registered Yoga Teacher and has been teaching since 2006. She trained in Vinyasa Yoga style and draws inspiration from Shiva Rea, Cyndi Lee and Tara Brach. She taught yoga in Washington DC before moving to Costa Rica where she now lives with her husband, her tenacious dog Lucas and three jungle cats.
