12 Things You Must Know about the Yoga Retreat to Costa Rica this August
So, you’ve been thinking about going to Costa Rica with Rebecca on her yoga retreat, but have a few questions. Read below to get all your questions answered.
1. When is the retreat?
Our retreat begins Sunday August 7th and ends Saturday August 13th. It is at Horizon Ocean View Hotel in Santa Teresa on the Nicoya Peninsula of Costa Rica on the Pacific Ocean.
2. What do I need to enter Costa Rica?
All you need is your passport.
3. How much is it?
For your own private room, it’s $2750. That includes your accommodations, yoga and breakfast every day, a tropical fruit smoothie in the afternoon, three group dinners, a bunch of beverages and snacks and one adventurous group excursion like snorkeling to Tortuga Island, sunset stand-up-paddle tour or a nature tour through the private reserve at Curu. I have a number of discounts available, so you should ask.
4. What’s the hotel like?
Horizons is small family-owned and operated hotel nestled in the hilltop amongst lush tropical gardens overlooking a 180 degree view of the glittering Pacific Ocean. Your room is a five minute walk to miles of sandy beaches. Their restaurant, the “Tea House” is open for breakfast and lunch daily and the yoga deck where we practice is at the very top of the hill where you get the best view of sunsets that splash the sky with reds, oranges and purples every night. Everything is outdoors in open air environments, except your villa which can be closed with air conditioning.
5. What’s the weather going to be like?
Highs in the 90’s when it’s sunny with no cloud cover and lows in the 70’s are typical this time of year. It’s the middle of the green season, so yes, it will rain. Probably at night though or for short bouts during the day. Read more why August is an amazing time to visit.
6. What kind of yoga is it?
Rebecca Bly yoga of course! Our theme is “Yoga, Wine and Waterfalls” which embraces the themes of adventure and enjoying life. Since it’s your vacation, you can expect yoga that just feels good on your body – soothing, flowing, relaxing and deeply rejuvenating.
We do yoga every day but it’s optional. Sometimes folks asks for a second class. We’ll wing it. It’s not intense, it’s not an obligation, it’s not work and it’s FINE if you’re a beginner, you’re “out of shape” or you haven’t done yoga in ages. It’s your vacation and you’re there to have fun and relax. You can read more about Rebecca’s style and try sample classes here.
7. What else is there to do?
So much! Surf, snorkel, stand up paddle board, horse back ride, explore the tide pools, walk miles of beaches, rent ATV’s and ride through the countryside, take a fishing tour, take a day trip to Isla Tortuga, hike to waterfalls, get massages, nap, relax in a hammock, read a book, swim in the ocean, dip in the pool, drink tropical smoothies, catch a fire dance show, have a crisp refreshing glass of wine from Tipsy and watch the sunset.
8. How’s the food?
The hotel is the best spot for breakfast and lunch in town. Everything is made with love by the owners themselves and all the produce is fresh and local. The local restaurants have a very wide variety of international options and I only recommend the best places. Every year my guests report they are pleasantly surprised by how great the food is for being in such a faraway place.
9. What’s the town like?
This town is very “off the grid”. Your room is about a 5-minute walk to stunning beaches that stretch for miles and a variety of charming shops and restaurants. You’ll find being here quite a wild experience, seeing monkeys and iguanas along the road, giving you the feeling of really being away, out in the open and immersed in nature.
10. How’s COVID in Costa Rica?
All of our activities and meals are outdoors. Masks are optional but no longer required indoors at shops and supermarkets. They are required at the clinic or the pharmacy.
Negative tests are required to re-enter the US. Testing is easy – the medic comes to the hotel and tests you there. We set this up for you.
11. Will it be crowded?
This is NOT the Jersey shore. The beaches are wide open spaces. The activities will be just for our group. And your hotel is reserved just for our group. We will likely be 8-10 people.
12. How do I get there?
Take a plan to San Jose the capital of Costa Rica. And then take a domestic flight for 20 minutes to the local airport. From there it is a 40 minute taxi ride to your hotel.
13. How do I sign up?
